Working with nature

Authentic Skincare is handmade in the coastal town of Newbiggin, Northumberland. As a small, artisan producer, we’re all about working with natural ingredients to create better skincare – better for your skin, better for Mother Earth and better for your purse.

 Authentic beginnings

The Authentic Skincare story began when our founder, Rachel Crocker, was trying to address rosacea, acne and ageing skin. She tried all sorts of brands but couldn’t find anything to relieve her itching and redness, even when she went high-end. Rachel’s children, Danny and Poppy, who are both on the autistic spectrum, also have hypersensitive skin and would react to shop-bought skincare. She noticed cutting out additives and colours in their diet was having a positive impact, so in 2012 she did something about it.

Rachel decided to look for natural alternatives and using herself as a guinea pig, she set about making her own soap which had miraculous results. What started out as a hobby quickly became a fully-fledged business. Her ranges expanded and she continues to create new products.

A nudge in the right direction

We’re not some big, fancy cosmetics company with a huge lab concocting God knows what – nope, we’re actually a one-women band who wants to show the big guns that nature is the way forward. Authentic Skincare may be teeny tiny but our message is mighty. If the artisans can all do our bit, we can push the industry as a whole to go down the natural and sustainable route.

Nature has our back

Authentic believes that if we nurture the earth, it will nurture us right back. We only use essential oils in our skincare products, no artificial fragrances. To keep the essential oils fresh, we use bioplastic. NatureFlex is next generation packaging, made from renewable wood pulp. It’s compostable and biodegradable, yet this remarkable packaging allows you to benefit from the botanical goodness.

Our products are shipped using cardboard which can be fully recycled.

It goes without saying that our products are cruelty-free and vegans love us. The only product not suitable for vegans is our honey and oatmeal soap.

What goes into our products

Meet the woman behind the skincare

Rachel is a self-confessed science nerd. She’s always loved the subject – so much so, she studied chemistry and science at The Open University. The last decade of research and formulation has made Rachel a huge believer in natural skincare and ditching nasty chemicals.

Creativity and product development is her first love and she loves nothing more than experimenting with new ingredients and making the ideas in her head a reality.

She’s also an eco-warrior and knows the earth’s gasping for breath – that’s why she’s massively into taking care of our health, our bodies and our planet.
